Dolores Prida (b. 1943, Caibarien – d. 2013, New York): A journalist, critic, poet and playwright, Prida had a major success in 2000 with the critically acclaimed off-Broadway revue Four Guys Named José and Una Mujer named María. Other plays include Casa propia, Beautiful Señoritas, Coser y cantar and Botánica. She translated the novels Yo! and In The Name of Salome, by Julia Álvarez. A prominent journalist, she wrote a monthly column for The Daily News in New York from 2005 until 2012.  In 2009, she began writing a weekly column for El Diario/La Prensa, which she was writing at the time of her death. Prida received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Mount Holyoke College.
